The campaign

The extreme Bushtucker Trials, the weeping celebrities, the creepy crawlies… I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here is truly the most iconic show ITV has ever released. With another series in production, tombola, Britain’s biggest bingo site, commissioned Über to create a series of TV idents with the help of our CGI experts. 

Across a series of 50 unique idents, we were tasked with the biggest Bushtucker Trial possible: to make jungle bugs loveable. We created eleven CGI jungle bug characters, each with different personalities and storylines, to capture Ttombola’s fun spirit and the challenges that lie ahead. 

What we did

To bring these jungle bugs to life, we provided end-to-end post-production services, including 3D modelling, character rigging, texturing, animation, lighting and rendering of every bug. We also provided edits, final composites, colour grade, finish and sound design. 

 

We used a technical process called photogrammetry to recreate the jungle world these bugs live in. We stitched together a series of photos to create a 3D model where the bugs would interact and move as they played tombola games. The result is a 3D model of the set that precisely places the bugs within the scene and gives highly detailed and accurate shadows.

These idents focus on the jungle bugs finding the celebrities’ phones, which they continue to ‘borrow’ and play tombola games as the show plays out. Our animators captured the bug’s distinct character and movement, adding personality to each critter’s storyline. We also recreated all of Tombola’s games and composited them into the phones used by the bugs for the final piece. The show’s real-time events inspired some idents, so we had to meet quick, 24-hour turnarounds.

The Results

With nearly 20 episodes every season, our team and Über prioritised keeping the creatives unique so viewers remain engaged throughout the show. 52 idents were produced, combining 15, 10 and 5-second ads featuring the bug characters. The jungle bugs have reached over 35 million viewers and have been such a hit that tombola is now in its 8th year of sponsorship. So far, we’ve delivered over 200 idents and continue working alongside Über for any other Bushtucker projects.
